Turkey, Ottoman Empire. A War Medal (Gallipoli Star) consisting of a blue enamelled Romanian Cross with clusters of nine gilt rays in eac reverse depicting the inscription TRIUNFO(Harp Madalyasi). Instituted in 1915. In bronze with red enamels, ball finials on the tips of the star points, unmarked, measuring 56 mm (w) x 64 mm (h), horizontal pinback, repair and crazing evident in the red enamels on the star point at 10 o'clock, with contact marks overall, near fine. Footnote: The Gallipoli Star was a military decoration awarded by the Ottoman Empire. It is also known as the Ottoman War Medal. It was instituted by Sultan Mehmed
