Likely originally displayed on a stand, this teak chest was used to store sacred Buddhist texts and ceremonial items. The exterior is richly adorned in red lacquer with elaborate raised gilt decoration known as thayoa traditional Burmese technique where a hand applied putty made from tree sap and ash is used
