The coloration is gray to greenish with dark purplish mottling on the under (outer) sides of the leaves. The inflorescence is a capitate stellate head with large, wide, spiny orange red bracts and lavender tinted flowers. A handsome but slow growing rare species. Grows equally well potted or mounted.
